Braintree Town’s playing budget won’t face a summer cull this year.
Despite the recession continuing to bite in all sectors of society, cash that Iron boss Alan Devonshire has to spend on players is set to remain the same for the 2012/13 campaign.
And some big Premier League names may even help boost Devonshire’s war chest if his plans come to fruition.
Chair man Lee Harding said: “The good news for Alan is that there will be no budget cuts and, in today’s economy, in a recession, I think that is an achievement.
“We explained the budget situation to Alan from day one.
“It is what it is and it is what we can afford.
“We make no apology of only spending what we can afford as the alternative is to end up in the High Court defending a winding-up petition like others have this season.
“What’s the saying? – prudence is not a dirty word.”
Harding confirmed the budget news during an exclusive interview with the paper in the first of a special two-part feature looking at his views on the club now and its future.
In this week's three-page feature, Harding speaks, among other things, about his philosophy of building with care, avoiding the pitfalls of spending beyond his club's means and reveals his favourite Iron moments this season.
See the paper this week for the full series of features and next week for part two.
