Colchester United do not expect any further bids from AFC Bournemouth for Anthony Wordsworth.

The U’s last week turned down a bid from the Cherries for the talented midfielder and do not anticipate any more bids, prior to the transfer window closing tomorrow.

U’s manager John Ward said: “We turned down a bid from Bournemouth for Anthony Wordsworth and we don’t expect them to come back.

“We’ve told them that he’s not going at the figure they offered.

“I spoke to the chairman about it and we both agreed that we didn’t want to lose Anthony at this stage.

“I sat with him last Friday morning and explained the whole situation to him and he’s put in a great shift for the team at Leyton Orient.

“He’s a professional young man and there was no sulking or throwing dummies out of the pram.

“He’ll get a move somewhere at some stage because he’s a good player and those kind of qualities will make sure that he does.

“He’s got nine goals for us this season and he’s a good footballer.”

Ward said he was delighted with Wordsworth’s mature performance in helping the U’s to a 1-0 victory at Leyton Orient.

“Anthony had to do a different job against Leyton Orient where he’s had to scrap and battle in the midfield but that’s a great side to his game,” added Ward.

“If people are having at look at him, they have seen that he can do that as well.”
