U's reserves beaten at Stevenage

Colchester United's reserves were beaten 3-0 by Stevenage tonight, in their latest totesport.com Combination match.

Tim Sills gave the home side the lead seven minutes before half-time and former U's man Lawrie Wilson doubled their advantage, early in the second half.

Danny Mitchley sealed Stevenage's win with 20 minutes to go, to inflict defeat upon Richard Hall's side.

The game saw U's goalkeeper Ben Williams make his first appearance since injuring his ankle in the Essex Senior Cup Final at the beginning of last month.

I hope this is not the last match of the season for our reserves. This was not a cup match, it was a league match, but was nothing to do with League 1.
I don't follow the reserves either, mainly because we are always starved of information about them. Not a mention on the CUFC website, as far as I can see. But how else do you expect fringe players, or those retuirning from injury, to get some match practice?
I shall always remember a magnificent reserves match, the last ever at Layer Road, on 29th April 2008, when the U's Reserves beat Peterborough Reserves 3-0, some good football was played, and we all went out on the pitch afterwards and took away samples of the hallowed turf.

Who wants to go to Maldon to watch the reserves.
Bring them back where they belong.

I'd go to Maldon if CUFC laid on free buses to there from Bruff Close or the Fat Cat. No wonder we never hear about reserve team home matches. What is the stadium for if not for playing football in?
