Marc Tierney has insisted he will not hold Colchester United to ransom over his future.
The popular left-back is out of contract with the U’s at the end of the season and is yet to agree on a new deal.
Since contract negotiations with previous manager Aidy Boothroyd broke down at the end of last season, any formal talks on Tierney’s U’s future have been put on hold.
However, the former Oldham Athletic trainee has stressed that he is comfortable with the current situation.
And the 25-year-old is willing to resuming talks with manager John Ward and chairman Robbie Cowling at any time.
Tierney told the Gazette: “I will leave it up to the manager to sit down and talk to me if and when he decides the time is right.
“But I won’t be holding the club to ransom or anything like that.
“I still have until the end of this season left on my contract and it’s an exciting time to be at Colchester.
“I’ve loved every minute of it and I won’t do anything to upset anyone.
“I have a brilliant relationship with the manager and the chairman."

"The chairman has the club's best interests at heart and I have my family's interests at heart, but I think we can meet in the middle." As a
matter of interest, does Mr Tierney or anyone at the club have the fans' interests at heart as the cost of supporting the U's steadily rises and is likely to rise further if players win excessive pay rises?.Marc Tierney is now doing what he did at Shrewsbury two years ago and in the end Shrewsbury were forced to sell him - or risk losing him on a free -because they couldn't or wouldn't meet his pay demands.Paul Simpson, then manager of Shrewsbury ,said at the time (see Shropshire Star,November 27,2008):
"Marc is out of contract in the summer and we've been speaking to the player and his agent about a new one.Although the talks weren't dead,we were a long way apart....Marc has made it clear that he isn't desperate to leave, but he owed it to himself to speak to Colchester."
Does this have a slightly familiar ring?.
It will be interesting to see whether Marc Tierney does this at his next club, which he is likely to be joining in January or next summer. There is nothing any of us can do about Marc Tierney's greed and selfishness. But I do wish he would not insult fans' intelligence with that tired old nonsense about wanting to do "what is best for my family." A well-worn phrase trotted out by footballers to justify their greed.I have never met Marc Tierney, but I suspect that the most important person in his life is.....Marc Peter Tierney.
