Platt leaves U's for Coventry

Striker Clive Platt has left Colchester United to join former manager Aidy Boothroyd at Coventry City.

The 32-year-old has quit the Weston Homes Community Stadium to join the npower Championship club.

Platt signed for Colchester in the summer of 2007 for a then club record fee of £300,000.

He was sent off in his first game, a friendly against Bolton Wanderers at Layer Road but scored on his U's league debut at Sheffield United.

Platt clocked up nearly 150 league and cup appearances for Colchester, scoring 27 times.

He was a regular under Boothroyd for Colchester last season.

And the lofty front-man clearly made a big impression on the former U's boss, prompting him to lure him to the Ricoh Arena.

Can't stop laughing, not only have Coventry got Boothroyd but they have signed Platt........ha ha ha!
27 goals in 135 games sorry but that's not good enough, but then at the sky blues the ball will be banged up to clive plank anyway!
Who we going to get in then?? I see Lisbie has gone on loan to Millwall.

Whilst I agree that the club will not be sorry to see Clive leave, I am a little concerned at the lack of replacement cover for those leaving - we now don't appear to have a target man, unless the combination of Odejayi and Gillespie are used up front - with the two wide men, Vincent and Hackney employed to supply quality crosses into the box. We are still short of a good finisher, a Jamie Cureton-kind of forward that will score given half an opportunity. Trundle was available as he was released by Swansea - tried and tested, prolific forward - maybe worth a look - now at a non-league club in Wales. Or did we buy the unknown guy I keep hearing rumours about from Burton Albion? Either way, we need to score more goals than we did last night, particularly considering the amount of chances that were created in and around the box. Will Mr Ward surprise us and bring in a quality forward that can score plenty of goals and make us some money when he leaves us for another club? Up the U's!

Great news. Now all we need is for Ward to bring in a proper striker with a goalscoring ratio that will help us get into the upper half of the table.
Gillespie and Odejayi just aren't doing it, so we need fresh blood up front before the start of the season, if possible.

But ontheball, Kayode was a one in three striker last season, so there's plenty to think he'll do the same again!

I never went last night to Chelmsford but a friend of mine did. He reckoned Sam Coracan looked very promising and Thomas Bender is definetly one for the future. Thats good news for the club. Lets hope Heath is either put out on loan or sold because with Magnus,Reid and Baldwin plus Bender or Beavers who can operate from there,we have enough central defenders.

I see Izale Mc Leod was released recently. Had lots of injuries the last two years but could be worth a trial. Never done no good at Posh or Charlton so could be a waste of time but who knows. Did score lots of goals once.

I see Hoofroyd has said that he wants to sign Marlon King when he gets out, sorry but there is no room in football for animals like him, give one of the kids from the academy a chance instead. He will still think he has done no wrong and will demand millionaire status, lets hope the FA will leave him to rot.

All I can say is I'm extremely pleased! It also gives me less reasons to moan at our games.:)

I absolutely concur with the majority view that we are better off without CP. I have seen more movement in scaffolding than from him as our no.9.
Unlucky Coventry LOL!
