Ward to run rule over U's squad

Colchester United manager John Ward will use tonight’s pre-season friendly at Chelmsford City as another opportunity to run the rule over his squad.

Ten of the U’s players tasted a full 90 minutes of action in the 1-0 win at Cambridge United last night.

And the likes of John White, Matt Heath and Simon Hackney are all expected to feature against the Clarets at Melbourne Park (kick-off 7.30pm).

Ward told the Gazette: “We will be taking a few of the younger players with us as substitutes.

“But I will be looking to most of the players, as long as they’re fit and able, to put 90 minutes of work in.”

Steven Gillespie, who has been carrying a slight ankle injury and Magnus Okuonghae are unlikely to figure tonight.

However, they are both expected to play a part in Colchester’s trip to play npower League Two side Aldershot on Saturday, in another pre-season friendly.

I know the season has yet to start but after hearing John Ward state in the press that he is happy with the current squad and that he will not be adding to it I fear the worst. Seing Lisbo signing for Millwall today and Cureton for Exeter I now see little chance of future success. I was always hoping we would sign Lisbo up for another season. At least we would have had some hope. It seems to me rather than pay out a decent wage to a decent player that the chairman would rather not and prefer to see us get relegated. It was obvious to all supporters last season that a goal scorer was top priorty for any new signing. The four fresh additions were not required and have not improved the quality of the squad. If Tierney goes to interested Forest and Williams leaves then I can see many a slaughter for the coming season. This club was ruined by Boothroyd and it needs a strong firm manager now to sort it out. Ive got my ticket for the Exeter game and I just hope Cureton if he plays does not score against us.

Relax my friend, you need a chill pill.

If only they would listen to you, then all would be fine.

There is plenty of time before the big kick off.

Cureton going to Exeter.....he's punching above his weight. Lisbie looked very lacklastre in the final third of last season. However, I do ageee we need a marksman fr thr U's if we are going to make an impression. Platt going to Coventry is a great result though :)

Time waits for no one. He who hesitates is lost.
