Colchester United are expected to offer midfielder David Prutton a longer-term deal.
The 28-year-old has made a positive impression for the U's after joining them from Coca-Cola League One rivals Leeds United, in January.
He initially arrived on a deal until the end of the season but Colchester boss Aidy Boothroyd wants to keep Prutton for longer.
He said: “I’ll be looking to extend it.
“Straight away, he’s come in and been a voice in the dressing room.
“He’s not afraid to speak his mind or be spoken to and I like people like that."
