The Indian Premier League is set to start and Graham Napier is hoping to make a bigger impact on the competition than he did last year.

Essex all-rounder Napier is in the Mumbai Indians squad for the second year running and they begin their campaign on Saturday when they face Rajasthan Royals (9.30am GMT).

Napier, from Colchester, will have a fight on his hands for a place, though, with Mumbai having signed ten overseas players, and only four are permitted to play per match.

“Last year I was delighted to just be around the IPL, even though I only played one game,” Napier said.

“It was great to be part of the show and training alongside Sachin Tendulkar.

“This year I want to make an impact.

“I'm available for nine games before I have to be back at Essex, and I am hoping to get an opportunity, especially as I have missed out on England’s World Twenty20 squad.

“You might look at the figures and say there's only a 40 per cent chance of making the team, but with injury or illness that can start improving pretty quickly.”
