Bradshaw: we have shown our desire

Steve Bradshaw believes the U’s recent transfer dealings underlines their desire to return to the Coca-Cola Championship.

Colchester United chief executive Bradshaw is pleased with the new faces that have arrived at the club this summer.

Goalkeeper Ben Williams is on the verge of becoming the latest player to join Paul Lambert’s squad for the coming season.

He will join fellow new boys Magnus Okuonghae, Lee Beevers, David Fox, Ashley Vincent and Alan Maybury at the U’s.

And with further new signings on the cards in the coming weeks, Colchester have been active in the transfer market.

The U’s are keen to win promotion from Coca-Cola League One and become a sustainable Championship club as soon as possible.

And chief executive Bradshaw thinks the new arrivals are ‘exciting’ additions to Lambert’s squad.

Bradshaw told the Gazette: “It is testament to (manager) Paul Lambert and his team that our commitment and ambition to be a Championship club is being shown in every respect.

“All football clubs are in a different position than they were three years ago and we’re no different.

“But it shows that despite the climate, we’re showing ambition both by bringing in exciting new players and making sure that we’re getting the best deals, as part of a sensible wage structure.

“The players we bring in will bring tenacity and physicality.

“And they will also have the hunger to progress with us and be successful.”

l Norwich City are rumoured to be interested in signing U’s striker Clive Platt.

Canaries boss Bryan Gunn is said to be looking to sign a target man for the new Coca-Cola League One season.

We have made some good signings there Magnus being the main one and least waste of time/money Coyne has gone, sorry but he was rubbish!
I think we should go all out for Matt Holland, he would be a good signing, I would be tempted to get him on board as Captain, the players would respect him and our opposition would too!
Nothing against Dean but we are talking different class here.
The goal keeper will sign soon they are just sorting out the housing details etc.

Yes Norwich take Platt please. Far to slow and only gets a goal when put on a plate for him. No good having fast players then crossing the ball and then finding Platt running on yards behind. Like Coyne rubbish. I said last year that Colchester should have aproachd Matt Holland to be player/manager. He lives in the Colchester area, smashing bloke with loads of enthusiam. I agree with Haggy love to have him on board.

Its not dealings in the transfer market that are going to show a desire to return to the Championship, its performance on the pitch.

We have sufferred enough over the last couple of years so enough of the endless spin spouting out of Cuckoo Farm and lets see some decent performances on the pitch!

Very true. The proof of the pudding is in the eating, and only once the season starts with points at stake will we truly begin to see whether all this talk is of any substance. They can talk all they like but it won't win any points.

And I see Norwich are after Platt and Ifil! Clearly they are showing the same ambition which saw them get out of the Coca-Cola Championship last season, after narrowly missing out in recent campaigns.
