Yeates says thank you to the U's

Mark Yeates believes Colchester United are capable of winning promotion under manager Paul Lambert. And the former U’s winger would like nothing better than for the U’s and his new club Middlesbrough to go up in the same season. Yeates – top-scorer last season with 13 goals – has left Colchester to return to the Coca-Cola Championship with Boro’, for a fee of around £500,000. The 24-year-old is looking forward to the new challenge that awaits him at the Riverside. However, Yeates was also keen to place on record his gratitude for his time with Colchester. And he believes they have what it takes to succeed in Coca-Cola League One. Yeates said: “Most of the football I’ve played has been at Colchester United and I owe a hell of a lot to the club. “I thank everyone – the staff and the fans. “I had three good seasons there and it will stand me in good stead. “I had a great time there, especially when we won promotion. “I wouldn’t be surprised if they went up next season and I would be delighted if that were to happen. “For Middlesbrough and Colchester to both to go up next year would be the perfect season for me. “If Colchester can get back up into the Championship, it would be an extra boost for everyone. “The gaffer will drill in what he expects of them. “Paul Lambert has a great squad and he knows exactly what

Cheers Yeates, You did well for us. Your worth much more than £500,000.

Well done Mark, you deserve a good move for all the hard work and effort you put in for the U's - hope we don't miss you too much but I fear we will.

I agree with both of the above comments. Sold far to cheap and we will miss him big time. Good luck Mark at your new club.

I personally think Paul Lambert is unloading certain players unnessary for his own ego.He needs Geraint Williams signings out of the way so that he can claim that he turned the club around. Certain players in my mind have been treated like dirt in this club. Paul Ifil and John White are two. Why sign Mayberry who is 32 when you have two reasonbly good young players at full back on your books. A lot of money has been wasted at this club by getting rid of players that have cost fees previously and then not been wanted by Mr Lambert. All we have done so far this season is get rid of Yeatsy for peanuts and Gerkin. People keep on about resigning Walker as the goal keeper but he is 36. Gerkin is a good goalie and was not given the confidence he should have had. I call it crap mamagment and sorry but i was never a lover of lambert in the first place and certainly not now. What about Etio he was playing in the championship for us near the end of the season before last. Liverpool were showing interest. Again another player gone to seed. If the manager blanks you out how the hell do you lift your game. If your shunned you lose confidence and feel down and not wanted. I spoke a few weeks ago to a Col Utd present player in a supermarket in Colchester. He is under contract but from what he told me many of the players are far from happy. I can not name him but will soon be able to once he leaves which will be soon. We have never been told what players Lambert wanted to get rid of or were being made available for transfer. This club now tells us nothing of whats going on. No comments from the colchester manager on the Col utd web page. Nearly every manager has something to say.
