U's drawn at Gills in Johnstone's Paint Trophy

Colchester United have been drawn at Gillingham in the second round of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.

The second round tie represents a repeat of the recent Carling Cup first round tie between the two clubs last month, which the U's won 1-0 thanks to a Matt Heath goal.

Colchester progressed to the second round of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy following a 1-0 win at Millwall on Tuesday night.

The tie at the Priestfield Stadium will take place week commencing October 6.

vic keeble i hope you are well. i was 40 this year, i had a conversation some maybe 27 years ago at chelmsford city, this conversation made me feel a giant. For one man idolized me, and i idolize him to this day, he passed away 22years ago on 22nd november 1986,but you told me he was a big influence on your earlier career, i just read the book ,they brought grandad back to layer rd 1949 to assist in training the casuals, i could do mastermind on my grandad , but i did not know this, it made a 6ft 3 inch geezer cry. george leslie s transfer from walsall to villa easter week 1934 would have been 21.5% of david jacks record transfer, which would be £6,400,000 today, i like this paper you sent him to highbury 77? re match not walsall. you see george leslie his records still stand 76 years on . the 1st man ever to beat the numbers. 1932 cup final newcastle 2 arsenal 1 they wore 1to 11 12 to 12 to 22, he died on it 22,11,86 exact, birth one day out lol 8,7,7. in august 1932 he played for red star olympic de paris, a bycicle club he did the easier part beating a newcastle team which beat arsenal without alex james, red star 3 newcastle 1 so thats a fluke yep.he was mobbed by the french paid money. lasted 17 day in paris, came home only offered the bankrupt, debts august 32 £2,000 liabilities £7,000 assets a squad of £69 all in . walsall 1929,30 6th bottom 3rd div south, 1930,31 6th bottom 3rd div south,1931,32 changed leagues, 6th bottom 3rd div north scored 57 let in 85. they had a squad of 19 before george turned up to make it 20 their smallest squad on record. if they had lost 1st round fa cup they would have been wound up. like vic it did nt take long, they turned over mansfield 4 1 to live to round 2, the £700 at home to hartlepools would nt save em. they came from behind dicing with death. round 2 of the 11 to 22 the 3rd round the walsall paper unlike walsall knew the score, poor old walsall had survived to january , and with george were unbeaten at home all year, sitting 3rd at christmas, his **** rable set off for the top 2 away , boxing day stockport 2nd and new years eve at hull. the rest got **** christmas day, george beat up lythgoe 2nd hot shot behind mc naughton, but stockport bypassed the best 2 on pitch. 5 0 the only time ever, they were bad man, he moved over to hull , mcnaughton got 39 out of hull s 100 goals, hull home 18 wins 3 draws, 0 loses, scored in other 20 home games, beat up mcnaughton beat up hull. hull 0 walsall drinkers club 0.herbert chapman turned up at home to barnsleys home draw. for saturday 14th jan 1933, bodyline day as well, was the 3rd round walsall v arsenal, arsenal 32,33 33,34 34,35 league winners, with alex james. arsenal cost £40,000 jack £11,500 and james older £9,000, their boots cost £87 walsalls team in august £69. by now george had to save walsall on his own, he was on arsenal wages backhanders £6 a week, him or we are bust. the walsall newspaper sat morning read what chance walsall, with all the team sitting on heavy roller, being pushed by george leslie, says it all. stockport cost arsenal dear, he played right out of position, did not mark jack because james would put it on a plate or get bypassed like stockport, so he went in the center circle as stopper, he turned alex james into little red riding hood, the king was toppled, the king of prowess was out prowessed. £69 v 3times league champions £40,000 not often chapman got pelted with tomatoes, it was his last f a cup game as he died before 3rd round next year, his last f a cup game he was scouting leslie 2nd round 33,34 clapton v walsall. only 1 reason he went to that one. arsenal were nilled twice all season 0 0 away leeds , 0 1 liverpool home, the scored their record score of 118, the only bigger upset than col u leeds, this is the only time the english league winners lost a team outside championship, 76 years ago, he is the only man 2 be town for the 2 biggest shocks ever, walsall arsenal and the man who got the bank robber single handed, when the rest ran away, yep big george retired old bill colchester arrived 1937 stayed forever.he played infront of 52,000 4th round away man city against busby and co. george beat the living out of a man called tillson who did not play in 33 final against dixie but scored both against portsmouth next year in final. your getting history here boys walsall have not got this stuff its left to me.we got parkers wedding pictures sent to grandad, one mans\spirit. man city wanted instant transfer, but £800 max 3rd div north transfer fee, any way they had survived, £700 hartlepool, £1,100 arsenal, £1,500 man city gate receipts , £6 cheap bud, fatten him up, its man city, the villa or arsenal 1934, he made the striker look so good they sold himto wba for £3,000 i magine today walsall to w b a £8,000,000, 2 years later playing for ipswich in 1st game ever agaist colchester united. 1932 walsall finished 5th scored 75 let in 58 thats 45 change in 1 season. 33 he broke all walsalls records they only equalled them never broken. he was a nil nil away from the post war record of 10 straight wins, they did 7 drew game 8 christmas day 33 won next 2. they did 4 aways never been broken. his transfer fee april 34 to the villa was £2,500 less for stopper. villa loads bigger w b a in 33. he bust his cartlidge on game of transfer, would have played for his country easy .look james came back to villa for that walsall blood found no george at the villa laughed , laughed wet himself and laid in drake all 7 , villa 1 arsenal 7 he got nilled at walsall so now you see why george leslie was worth £6,400,000 of todays paper printing.he spent 4 years before anybody done much to his cartlidge, what pain , the harley street and birmingham doctors said hed never walk again, he came back 9 month later to save walsall. in 33 34 he played until easter monday they scored 97 let in 69 so their goal differnce changed by 65 in 2 year.pele could you do that in mud of walsall.lol he was let go by walsall after what he did, look how they bad they were without him, he played pay per play, the hardest man to ever play football, to guildford he went 36 37 played against ipswich, he was on 1 leg he never got his chance. that year colchester saw a ghost, they could not believe he was\still playing. he signed 37 colchester united would have won bar his injury, got letters from the alderman nobby mayor.you sent old humpty to hospital in arsenal 38 it worked he was captain he played 59 games after that hammering, he won something it meant everything. colchester scored 111 conceded 37. miles better than ipswich, they took 9,000 to portman rd to beat ipswich reserves with guildford 2nd. he was going to wembley only injury ever stopped him. this is colchesters year 3 score and ten. i m not mucking about save yourself from the credit crunch 28 to 1 colchester is massive. 360th anniversary of the siege , give em hell, i backed colchester to win £10k no bull. have a look at town hall thats where he stood, 1939, visualise it , do it , you only get one chance. when you won the fa cup you must have fullfilled something in my grandfather. look keeble and leslie with no disrespect where a different class to even lua lua, they have won zilch in england since vic.cheers for rant james leslie george leslie s grandson.
