Williams thanks the fans

Gavin Williams thanked Ipswich Town fans for their support after leaving the club for Bristol City.

The midfielder has signed a two-year deal for an undisclosed fee and will be reunited with Robins boss Gary Johnson, who he played under at Yeovil Town.

After completing his move, Welsh international Williams said: "I had good times at the club and there are some great lads in the dressing room.

"The supporters were always very good to me, too, and I'd like to thank them for their backing.

"It's a good move for me, though.

undisclosed "It takes me closer to my family in Wales, which is very important to me, and also gives me a chance to work with Gary Johnson again."

Although undisclosed, the fee is thought to be in the region of £100,000.

Williams made 51 starts and eight substitute appearances for Town, scoring three goals, after joining from West Ham in January 2006.

Meanwhile, Town boss Jim Magilton has played down rumours Aston Villa are preparing a move for Danny Haynes.

The midfielder-cum-striker is one of the most sought-after players at Portman Road and has previously been linked with Premier League sides Portsmouth, West Ham, Everton and Wigan.

Villa are now thought to be interested but Magilton said: "We have had no bids for Danny.

"If we do we'll take it from there and, as I've said before, I'd never stand in the way if one of my players was given a chance to play in the top flight.

"But until that happens he remains very much part of my first-team plans."

Magilton has spent the last few days in Belfast studying for his UEFA A Licence.
