THERE was a 2-1 defeat for Colchester United’s under-23s as they headed to face Sheffield Wednesday’s under-23s in a Professional Development League encounter.
The game got off to a bad start for the young U’s as a cross ended up being turned into his own net by Ollie Kensdale as the Owls took a lead in the second minute.
That was how it stayed until half-time and although the U;s improved after the break, it was the hosts who went further ahead when Morgan Fox scored on 77 minutes to double their lead.
Colchester did gain a late consolation when Noah Chilvers fired home from the penalty spot after a foul on Andre Hasanally in the 82nd minute, but they were unable to find a second goal to level the match.
The defeat left Colchester still looking for their first point of the season and sitting bottom of the south division table after their opening five games of the season.
