Manager Paul Hurst said he wouldn't use fatigue as an excuse as his Ipswich Town team were left still looking for a first Championship win of the season after a 2-0 defeat at Derby County.

The Blues had to play 51 minutes with ten men to earn a point against Aston Villa on Saturday and while Hurst acknowledged that there wasn't the energy he wanted to see against the Rams, he didn't use it as an excuse for their loss.

“I didn’t think we had the energy I’d have liked us to play with," he said.

"Whether that was because of Saturday or credit to Derby I’m not sure.

"I don’t want to use it as an excuse.”

The result left Ipswich still looking for their first league win since Hurst took over as boss, while it saw Derby's new manager, Frank Lampard, claim a first win in front of their home fans.

Joe Ledley opened the scoring midway through the second half with a strike from 25 yards after Ipswich failed to clear from a Derby corner.

And Tom Lawrence soon added a second with a free-kick to make sure the points were sealed.
