THERE was a bumper field of 129 men for Clacton Golf Club's August Medal.

The division one winner was James Bettis, with a great score of nett 64.

In second place, on countback, was Clive Bedding, with nett 65, from third-placed Liam Clark, also with nett 65.

Division two saw four players returning nett 68s.

After countback, the eventual winner was Ronald Marsham.

In second place was Terence Compton, third place went to Peter Smith and in fourth was Tony Toye.

Elsewhere, Clacton's ladies played for the Butler Cup and winning with a fantastic score of 39 points was Barbara Mahoney.

In second place, with 37 points, was Gillian Wilson.

Three ladies returned a score of 36 points and, on countback, Brenda Lord came third from Fiona Cope and Verity Coulthard.

Clacton's juniors played for the Peter George Trophy and Katy Yates won with 43 points, while also shooting a gross 68.

This was a new Clacton ladies' course record.

In second place was Harvey Bell and third place went to Harrison Dove.

Mixed pairs played for the Ferens Salver at Clacton.

First place went to ladies' captain Brenda Lord and club captain Alfie Smith, with 40 points.

In second place, one point behind, with 39 points, were Lin and Paul Euston.

In third place, on countback, with 38 points were Kath Sinnott and Nick Smith from Hoon Locke and Andy Hobbs.

Clacton's seniors played for the August Medal.

In first place, with an impressive nett 66, was Loius (Lou) Barratt.

In second place, just one shot behind, was Anthony Burnside with a nett 67. Third place went to Robert Seggie with a nett 71.
