Colchester United head coach John McGreal says he is keen to further reinforce his squad further in the coming weeks.

The U’s have been busy in the transfer market already this summer, bringing in six new signings.

McGreal is pleased with the business they have done but is eager to add more new faces before the window closes for permanent signings, on August 9.

He told the Daily Gazette: “We’ll be looking to bring a couple of other players in before the end of the transfer window, if we can.

“We’re still looking but they have to be players who are going to improve the squad.

“But a lot of players want to be here.

“We’ve created a great environment with great facilities to work from and we know what the division is all about.

“If you look at our players we’ve had, over the last two seasons they have all improved.”

Colchester have brought in experienced campaigners Harry Pell and Frank Nouble, along with striker Aaron Collins on a season-long loan from Wolves.

They have also snapped up goalkeepers Bailey Vose and Ethan Ross from Brighton and West Brom respectively, along with young left-back Noah Chesmain from Millwall.

In addition, the U’s have also re-secured the services of Luke Prosser and Ryan Jackson with new contracts.

“We were trying to make a bit of a statement and show a bit of intent for our supporters, which I think we’ve done by bringing in the likes of Harry Pell and Frank Nouble early on,” added McGreal.

“To get those deals done early was excellent business by the chairman and (director of football) Tony Humes.

“It’s been a really good few weeks in terms of recruitment – a fair bit of planning went into the signings beforehand and that’s proved very beneficial.

“We knew exactly what type of player we were looking for.

“We’ve been trying to tie our own players down too and it was great to get Ryan Jackson and Luke Prosser here for longer.”
