Colchester United have snapped up young goalkeeper Ethan Ross following his release by West Bromwich Albion.

The 21-year-old, who spent some time training with the U's at the end of last season, has signed a two-year deal with the U's after ending his six- year spell at the Hawthorns.

With Sam Walker looking set to leave Colchester this summer, Ross is expected to battle it out with Dillon Barnes and fellow new signing Bailey Vose to be the club's first-choice keeper in the 2018-19 season.

And the former Redditch United and Worcester City loanee says he is looking forward to making a name for himself, at the U's.

He told the Daily Gazette: "The move came about quite quickly.

"I found out that my future wasn't going to be at West Brom and they've been great with the whole situation, finding me a new club.

"I came down to train with the lads in the lead up to the Exeter City game at the end of last season and I was really impressed by how professional the whole club was, in terms of the way the club is run, the facilities and the overall standard of football here.

"The club has a flourishing academy and it's also a nice part of the world, so it ticked all the boxes for me.

"I want to play football, at the end of the day and I want to make a name for myself."
