A QUARTET from Stoke by Nayland Golf Club have battled their way through to England Golf Finals Week.

Ian Thompson, Del Pritchard, Bev Thompson and Jo Little qualified after performing well at the England Golf Team Championship Regional Qualifier, in West Sussex.

The competition was open to teams of four, including at least one lady with the format seeing the best two stableford scores count on each hole, playing off 90 per cent handicap.

The Mannings Heath course proved to be challenging and after a nervy start only scoring three points on the first hole, Team Stoke soon rallied to 42 points for the front nine.

Some solid play from Thompson and Little saw them maintain their form on the back nine to achieve a total of 84 points and install them as clubhouse leaders.

Following the live leaderboard at home, Stoke by Nayland GC club president Lesley Garnett was nervously watching the remaining scores come in.

And although Team Stoke finished in third place to scores of 87 and 84 on countback, it should be enough to see them qualify for the national final at Frilford Heath, in August.

It is part of England Golf week, where they will compete for a chance to play in the final in Florida sponsored by Travelbag.

The team will join Stoke by Nayland GC member Sue Latham, who has also qualified for Golf Week where she will contest the Medal Winners Final.
