Tom Lapslie will be staying at Colchester United, next season.

And the U's have confirmed that Brennan Dickenson will also be part of John McGreal's squad for the 2017-18 campaign.

Colchester have taken up the option to retain the services of the duo, whose contracts were due to expire this summer.

U's head coach McGreal had confirmed earlier this month that winger Dickenson will be staying at the Community Stadium.

And now they have announced news of midfielder Lapslie staying, as they continue to make plans for a third season in League Two.

Colchester director of football Tony Humes told the club's website: "As with a number of our contracts, the club had an option included for an additional year, and we are taking up the options in both Tom and Brennan's cases.

"Both players will, I'm sure, have big parts to play in the squad this season and we felt it was important to keep them both on board."
