COLCHESTER and Tendring Athletic Club's juniors have won their second consecutive 53-12 Cross-country League Junior title.

They triumphed in the last race of the season, at a very wet and muddy Gosfield School.

It helped CATs record 34 points to finish ahead of nearest rivals Ipswich Jaffa (44), following a nip and tuck season with the Suffolk club.

Aidan Cahill led CATs to the finish with his second place, with Jack Wharton just a step behind in third.

Charlie Regan (eight) and Liam Morgan (ninth) were not far behind, with final scorer Callum Cahill (12th) securing them 34 points.

Stanley Walton (15th), Rocco Viljoen (16th) and cross country debutant Leo Morley-Robertson (20th) also played their part to ensure CATs boasted eight out of the top 20 finishers.

Kaela Swaine (23rd) was first CATs girl finisher, ahead of Finn Rattray (24th), Stanley Hobbs (27th), Amy Thompson (28th), Rebecca Ventre (38th), Emily White (41st) and Ally Thorndyke (45th).

Louie Wright was 49th on his debut, followed by Fred Walton (52nd), Elsa Styles (53rd) and Oggie Griffith (54th).

Lucy Thompson (57th), Brandon Nelson (61st), Rachel Sandercock (65th), Olivia Woods (73rd), Polly Parker (74th) and Lavinia Ventre (88th) also performed well.

In the seniors race, Freddy Richardson had a great run in the really challenging conditions to finish 17th.

David Cahill (123rd) and club chairman Warren Page (142nd) also completed the slippery course.

Individual 53-12 honours went to Matt Brayshaw and Aiden Cahill, who were first and second in the under-15 Boys' category.

Ally Thorndyke took the under-17 girls' title, while Kaela Swain won the girls' under-13 age group.

CATs athletes went up against the best of British runners at the Inter-counties event, at Loughborough.

Elsie Gray was 91st in her race while Matt Brayshaw was 113th, both in fields of 300+ competitors.

Henry Dover struggled round with a nasty head cold, when he was expecting a good performance.

CATs' over-40 athlete Arron Bollu won English Masters indoor silver in the triple jump event, at Lee Valley.
