Colchester United's under-18s have booked a home meeting with MK Dons in the FA Youth Cup fourth round.

Chris Llewellyn's side beat Crewe Alexandra 2-0 at the Weston Homes Community Stadium, thanks to a goal towards the end of each half.

Crewe went close early on when Oliver Harrison glanced a cross just wide of the far post.

Callum Jones dragged a shot wide of the far post for Colchester, who took the lead eight minutes before the break.

After Andre Hasanally, from the right, fed the ball inside to Ollie Sims, he switched the ball onto his left foot before flashing a superb shot into the net.

Colchester went close to doubling their lead just after the break when Sims was denied by keeper Sam Booth who also foiled Dean Ager's great strike when he pushed it around the post.

The U's dominated the closing stages of the match.

A loose ball was picked and fed to Sims whose shot was blocked away for a corner and then as they broke again in numbers, Hasanally from the right-back position fed the ball down the line.

After Sims was found, he fed to Callum Anderson whose cross in saw Jones glance a header just wide.

However the U’s wrapped up their win with a crucial second goal with five minutes remaining.

Noah Chilvers slipped the ball between the keeper’s feet from six yards, to seal Colchester's progress into the fourth round.
