THERE is still time to cast your vote ahead of this year’s Sport Colchester Sports Personality Awards.

The most impressive performers of the year, as nominated by you, will be rewarded at a glittering ceremony at the Weston Homes Community Stadium, on Monday, November 20.

Colchester’s most prestigious annual sporting awards were first made over 30 years ago and are now recognised as one of the best of their kind in Essex.

They recognise the tremendous achievements of the borough’s amateur sportsmen and women.

The awards are sponsored by the Daily Gazette, meetings, accommodation, events and travel management experts Inntel and the Duley Practice, the local partner practice of St James Place Wealth Management.

The individual and team awards for under-14s, under-18s and ‘open age’ are for outstanding achievement during the calendar year at international, national or regional level.

Nominations are open to any individual or team representing any sporting organisation in the Colchester and District Council area.

The Coach Of The Year Award recognises outstanding coaching assistance given to help individuals or teams achieve outstanding results.

The Bill Tucker and Eric Chapman awards are in memory of two people who gave up much of their time to develop sport in Colchester.

The fruits of their efforts are seen in the high quality of the sports clubs and individuals in the borough.

The Eric Chapman Service To Sport Award recognises outstanding service and commitment by an unpaid volunteer for the development of sport in Colchester and the Community Club of the Year recognises the development of youth sport and the establishment of strong community links by a club or group.

The Bill Tucker Awards for seniors and under-18s recognise individuals who by their commitment, tenacity and dedication in the face of hardship or disadvantage or in difficult circumstances have proved to be an inspiration and role model to their peers and/or the public at large.

Previous winners cover a wide range of sports from athletics, football, sailing, swimming, cricket and rugby through to individual sports such as martial arts, bowling, croquet and power lifting.

The Premier Sports Personality of the Year recognises outstanding achievement by a professional sportsperson or team who is full-time dedicated to the sport in question and/or whose majority earnings come from the participation and/or organising of that sport.

The winner will either be currently representing a club or organisation in the borough or, if plying their trade elsewhere, will have had strong participation in the borough in previous years.

The aim is to recognise people who may have been excluded by previous criteria yet whose sporting prowess is known throughout the land.

Saskia Clark, Dominic King and Colchester United are among recent winners.

The judging panel for all the awards consists of representatives of Sport Colchester and the Daily Gazette.
