Colchester United were beaten 2-1 at home by Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday afternoon.

Nathan Tyson put the Chairboys ahead and although Brandon Hanlan equalised for the U's on his first-ever league start, Craig Mackail-Smith scored the visitors' winner and condemned John McGreal's side to their first home league defeat of the season.

The result sees Colchester slide to 20th in the League Two table, and they travel to play Grimsby Town on Tuesday night.

Here, Colchester United reporter Jonathan Waldron rates the players in the disappointing 2-1 defeat:

SAM WALKER 7

U’s keeper made good save to deny Akinfenwa late on and was unlucky with goals conceded.

TOM EASTMAN 6

Looked relatively comfortable against the likes of Akinfenwa before going off injured.

RYAN INNISS 6

Generally dealt well with Wycombe’s lively forward trio and unlucky not to score in second half.

FRANKIE KENT 6

Was partly at fault for Wycombe’s opener but otherwise performed well on return from injury.

RYAN JACKSON 7

Was always enterprising in attack and played his part in build-up to Hanlan’s goal.

TOM LAPSLIE 6

U’s skipper worked hard and got stuck in as usual but could not prevent a Wycombe win.

DOUG LOFT 6

Had plenty of the ball on his return from injury and tried to keep the U's moving.

KANE VINCENT-YOUNG 7

Produced some stirring runs from left wing-back but did not see enough of the ball.

SAMMIE SZMODICS 6

Was denied twice by Brown in the first half but was less effective after the break.

DREY WRIGHT 7

U’s man of the match. Provided assist for Hanlan’s goal and impressed with his directness and trickery.

BRANDON HANLAN 7

Took his goal very well and performed well on his first-ever league start.

Was unable to help Colchester muster a late equaliser as the clock ticked down.
