COLCHESTER and East Essex captain Jake Foley says they are likely to draft more senior players into their squad for their crucial final run-in.

The Castle Park side are in desperate need of points as they attempt to retain their Shepherd Neame Essex League premier division status, for another year.

Colchester are rooted to the bottom of the table after five successive defeats and travel to play Southend-on-Sea and EMT tomorrow knowing a win is essential to boost their chances of survival in the top flight.

The likes of Julian Russell and Joe McGregor are both set to return to Colchester’s batting line-up and skipper Foley admits it is a crucial fixture for his side, as they aim to bounce back from their disappointing home defeat at the hands of Hornchurch, last weekend.

Foley told the Daily Gazette: “It’s our biggest game of the season.

“We keep telling our players that if we get one win then more will follow and we still believe that we can stay up.

“We have some decisions to make on who will play against Southend.

“We have a young squad and that’s the issue we’ve got, as we head into the last six games.

“We’ll have a little reshuffle and bring a few more experienced players into the side, at the expense of the younger, talented but inexperienced players we have.

“We have the older guys around for the rest of the season now and the younger guys back from the school circuit that they’ve been playing on.

“There aren’t many who can’t play this weekend, which means that we have the potential to change things.”
