A LARGE field of Ladies took to the golf course to compete in Playgolf Colchester's July Stableford competition.

A nine-hole countback gave the division one top spot to Ann Longman, beating Sally Pettit, after both players recorded 34 points.

Third place went to Lucy Sadler, just one point off the pace on 33 points.

Sue Patrick (32) won division two with a clear lead of two points over nearest rival Emma Rowe on 30 points.

Third place needed countback to separate Jennie Boyden, who pipped Shirley Birkin to the post, after both players carded 28 points.

The forecasted rain held off long enough for a large field of seniors to compete for the senior captain, Michael Johnson, Vets Trophy.

Jim Greenfield (19) took first place in division one with 41 points.

His highlights came with one birdie and six pars resulting, which also earned him a one-shot handicap reduction.

Trevor Cocksedge (14) was on countback from John Edgell (20), in third, after both carded 37 points.

The runaway winner in division two and outright winner of the Vets Trophy was Brian Hart (25) with an outstanding 44 points.

It included seven pars and resulting in him receiving a three-shot handicap reduction to play off 22 next time out.

Stan Knights (25) was second with 37 points closely followed by third-placed Bernard Keyes (24) with his par round of 36 points.
