COLCHESTER boxer Lewis Richardson continued his winning run with a victory in his third fight of the year - this time while on international duty for England.
The 19-year-old, who represents Essex University Boxing Club, continued his preparations for next month’s National Championships with a unanimous victory over Abdesslam Chabi, as England took on Sweden in Basingstoke.
“I was really pleased with the way I performed and it was great getting back to winning ways in an international fixture,” said Lewis, who lost out to two close decisions against more experienced opponents while representing England in December.
“I felt like I won every round after a slow first minute, but I really warmed to the challenge and felt I performed well.
“The England coaches were very happy with my performance and we won on the night 6-1, so it was all good.
“With this, and two good wins at club shows so far this year, I'm really upbeat with the way things are going and getting myself set up nicely for the National Championships, which I really want to do well in.”
Preparation for those championships continues at Harlow Dog Track on Sunday, when Richardson takes on Dan Gibson, from Norwich Boys, in the Eastern Counties finals of the Senior Elite Championships.
