Lewis Kinsella is set to continue his recovery from a long-term ankle injury for Colchester under-23s when they take on Millwall today.

Kinsella, who has been out since last October with an ankle injury, played for Wayne Brown’s side in their Premier League Cup defeat at Manchester City last weekend and is expected to feature again in this afternoon’s game at Dartford FC (kick-off 1pm).

Charley Edge and Cameron James, who have been regulars for Colchester's under-23 team this season, are unlikely to feature against Millwall.

The duo, who have been substitutes for the U's first team in their last three League Two fixtures, are expected to be named in Colchester's squad for their game against Wycombe Wanderers tomorrow night.

U's head coach John McGreal said: “They’re the next in line and these lads have done particularly well for us in the under-23s.

“They’ve deserved their opportunity to be in and around it and there’s no problems with throwing those boys on.

“The boys are there to be called upon and we need them at this moment in time.

“There’s a lot of investment in the youth and at the minute, they are needed."

Meanwhile, McGreal has confirmed that defender Lloyd Doyley's injury is more serious than first thought.

Doyley limped out of Colchester's 2-1 win over Barnet with a knee injury and could now be facing a spell on the sidelines.

McGreal added: “Lloyd will be a while as well and it’s a little bit worse than what we thought.

“It’s a tendon in and around the outside of the knee that’s come away."
