COLCHESTER Amateur Boxing Club's Tommy Reid was in dominant form at the Harwich ABC annual show.

He claimed a clear win over Archie Brown from All-comers club in Suffolk, despite giving away height and almost a year in age.

Reid made the more positive start, dominating the opening exchanges with powerful combinations that swept Brown out of his stride.

The Colchester boxer continued to land the cleaner heavier shots and Brown was shaken by the end of the round.

Brown began the second round determined to get in the fight but Reid was in a rhythm and continued to dominate with a fine performance.

By the final round, a somewhat dispirited Brown did well to hang in there as he was repeatedly caught by power shots, by the improving Colchester boxer. The judges all agreed Reid was a clear winner, which will prepare him well for a championship challenge in the new year.

Colchester's Ben Lee, in his first season of boxing, faced the home club's more experienced Sean Darvell.

This proved to be a close well-fought contest, with Lee landing the heavier shots.

But the Harwich boxer remained a bit busier and scored shots that Lee should have been avoiding.

It was close enough to split the judges but the result went to Darvell on points.

Nevertheless, it was experience for the Colchester newcomer, who will be in action again before Christmas.
