Colchester boxer Lewis Richardson has been selected to represent England at the GB Boxing Championships in Sheffield later this year.

The 19-year-old, who has set himself the goal of competing for Team GB at the Tokyo Olympic Games in 2020, will be among the country’s top young boxing talent on December 8.

He said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for me, and I’m just so chuffed to have been selected.

“I’ve nothing to lose and everything to gain by competing at this event and I can’t wait to start preparations, get in there and do the business on the big stage.”

Colchester’s Centurions Boxing Club member Richardson, who fights in the 75kgs category, last month kick-started his season with victory in an international bout.
