Colchester United's under-23s fell to a narrow 2-1 loss at Sheffield Wednesday this afternoon.
It was the U's second successive defeat in Professional Development League Two, following their 4-1 home loss to Crewe Alexandra last Monday.
Colchester fell behind in the first half when Matt Penney gave the hosts the lead.
And although Decarrey Sheriff equalised for the U's with nine minutes remaining, George Hirst - the teenage son of Wednesday legend David Hirst - found the net from a Lewis McGugan free-kick to wrap up the Owls' win.
Colchester's under-23 side are next in Professional Development League Two action when they host Bolton Wanderers, in a fortnight's time (October 10).
Colchester United squad: Barnes, Williams, Wyatt, O'Donoghue, Kent, Peter, Ocran, Regis, Issa, Edge, Brown, Sheriff, Harrison, Partridge, Jones.
