SOME outstanding scores were recorded as Playgolf Colchester held the Gazette Open Texas Scramble.

It is a team event and format that always proves to be popular with the members, especially as it includes all sections of the club.

The superb course conditions matched a lot of the golf on display, in perfect conditions.

The team of Tom Earl, Lee Abrehart and Simon Longman triumphed by a couple of shots, with an outstanding score of 57.1.

Stephen Allen, Trevor Barnett and Matt Barnett were runners-up after carding 59.5, a score that would usually be enough to win most competitions.

The team of Adrian Binns, Alex Crawford and Trevor Hollingsworth were third with a score of 62.6.

They finished just .2 ahead of the fourth-placed team consisting of the three Fantousi brothers - Elias, Christos and Andreas.

Colchester Playgolf Seniors were rampant again, defeating The Suffolk in their home match friendly.

Conditions were excellent for the match and Playgolf ran out 7½-½ points winners.

Senior captain Alan Cole, with assistance from his vice-skipper Michael Johnson, put on a fabulous Captain's Guest Day.

A large number of guests took to the tees, travelling from areas such as Hertford, Chigwell and Brentwood.

Scoring was not outstanding, with Greg King taking the overall win with 38 stableford points.

The Captain's charity was The East Anglian Children's Hospice.

A large field turned out in scorching weather to compete in Playgolf Colchester's prestigious Ladies Charity Trophy.

Lucy Sadler took top spot on the podium for the second successive year.

Her score of 36 points narrowly beat nearest rivals Gina Macmillan and Nicky Withycombe.

Each recorded 35 points, with Macmillan winning following the nine-hole countback by a single point, 18-17.
