THERE was a full field for Frinton Golf Club's five-man Texas Scramble event.

The event raised money for the club's Arthur Havers Bursary, in aid of juniors and others in need.

It felt like the first day of summer, with hazy sun and very little wind, and the scoring was reflective of the conditions. There were two categories of competitors.

In the mixed section, the winners were the team of lady captain Angela Vaughan and her children Claire, Andrew and Stephan, along with Sheran Harding. They scored 56.4 nett.

The men’s winners were Murray Northover, Simon Partridge, Ed Glease, Steve Davies and John Warner, with 54.9 nett. Last year’s winning team of Graeme Dodds, Andrew Bailey, Justine Osborne, Adam Ellis and Tony Nicholas came in second, with 55 nett.

Arthur Havers’ nephew, Vernon, awarded the prizes.

In the fourth round of the Daily Mail Foursomes, Frinton’s Caroline Gard and partner Jan Wright had a victory against Barbara Connolly and Sheila Mines, from Benton Hall.

They won it three and two.

It was a close match throughout and played in good spirits.

In the ladies' Coronation Foursomes, Yvonne Davies and Linda Hayles were way out in front, winning with 36 points.

In second place, with 29 points, were the team of Joan Horner and Caroline Grey.

Tracey Taylor and Sheila Attrill were in third place with 27 points, after a very strong front nine.

The junior section has been very active of late.

In the Lavinia Evelyn Jones Trophy, Lily Taylor won the event with a 67 nett.

Jamie Sach was in second place with 72 nett.

Their points will count in the boys and girls club championship competitions.

Meanwhile, Frinton's seniors hosted Gosfield Lake in a friendly match, recording a 5-3 victory.

This brings the year-to-date results to nine wins in 13 matches.

Bill Smith continued his excellent run of results and now has five wins out of six matches.

His other match was halved.

Frinton's ladies’ Harris Bowl team had a good victory, beating Five Lakes 3-2.

With four results in, it was neck-and-neck.

The fourth match was all-square and had to go on to the 19th.

In a nail-biting finish, Sheila Attrill won her match on the 21st hole.
