Jamie Day has been unveiled as the new manager of Braintree Town.

The Iron have gone with someone with a proven track record of National League level succes in making their appointment to replace Danny Cowley, who left as manager to join Lincoln City just over a week ago.

Day joins Braintree after being assistant manager at Forest Green Rovers, who finished second in the league, last year and will also be well known to Iron fans after leading Welling United into the top flight of non-league football and then establishing them at that level.

The club have wasted little time in making their appointment of Day and Braintree chairman Lee Harding told the Braintree and Witham Times of his delight at getting him on board.

He said: "There is an element of deja vu for us because it really was neck-and-neck 12 months ago when we did appoint Danny and Nicky Cowley.

"We had also spoken to Jamie then and were very impressed with what he had done - Welling of course always used to beat us with him as manager!

"Jamie always had a well-organised side at Welling, possibly without great resources but he always made them competitive.

"There might be a little extra money to spend at Braintree but we're not talkign fortunes and, from talking to him, he'll certainly be spending that money as if it was his own.

"That is the sort of mentality that we like.

"He was very unlucky to miss out 12 months ago but now we revisit and he has beaten some very good applicants to the post.

"All of the ones on our shortlist could have done a very good job, but Jamie is the one we feel is best suited to take us forward."
