Jordan Pavett has no doubts at all that Halstead Town can earn Thurlow Nunn League division one promotion this season.

The former Colchester United trainee has made a big impact since joining the Humbugs from Witham Town two weeks ago and opened his scoring account as they were edged out in an entertaining game by runaway leaders Wivenhoe Town last weekend.

Halstead will look to bounce back from the 3-2 defeat when they host Diss Town at Rosemary Lane today (kick-off 3pm) and continue their push for promotion this year.

They are well-placed in fifth spot with 15 games still to go and even though the striker has only been involved for a short time, Pavett is confident that they can push for a move into the premier division.

He said: “I know we can do it – 100 per cent.

“The manager has been really positive and everyone in the team is really positive.

“I know we lost against Wivenhoe, but as soon as we got into the changing room the Gaffer said if we perform like we did in the second half, then why wouldn’t we get promoted.

“I have 100 per cent belief that it will happen.

“The luck wasn’t on our side against Wivenhoe but if we keep playing like that in future games we will fly up the table.”

Pavett, who opted to move down from Ryman League division north to join the Humbugs, scored the second of Halstead’s two goals against Wivenhoe and is enjoying his time so far at Rosemary Lane.

He said he feels the way that the team look to play means that he will get opportunities to add to his debut strike and feels the way they played against Wivenhoe shows they should be targeting the top end of the table.

“When I came here, I didn’t see it as stepping down,” he said.

“I just wanted to be playing and getting goals.

“The good thing about Halstead is that we try to keep it on the floor and pop it about.

“I’m enjoying myself and the first two games have gone well.

“I’ve got myself off the mark (in goals) so I’m now looking for more.

“Wivenhoe’s two early goals didn’t give us an easy ride but we proved that we are good enough to compete with the top sides.

“If they are top then who is to say that we can’t finish second.”

Another of Halstead’s recent additions has also given them a boost this week, with the news that Joe O’Hare has extended his loan spell at Rosemary Lane from Chelmsford City until the end of the season.
