STANWAY ROVERS boss Angelo Harrop believes his award-winning side fully deserve their recognition from the Thurlow Nunn League.

The premier division high-fliers have won the league’s performance award for December and January.

A special presentation will take place at a home game later this month - possibly before the Brantham Athletic fixture on February 23 - when the club will receive £150.

They will also receive a further £100 to donate to a charity of their choice.

Stanway’s recent form has been stunning.

They have 13 of their last 14 league fixtures and are second in the table, 12 points behind leaders Norwich United, with a game in hand, and now six clear of third-placed Felixstowe & Walton.

“It’s fantastic and I’m so pleased for the players, to get some recognition for what they’re achieving,” said Harrop, whose side have not lost in the league since October 10.

“It’s great for our club.

“In some ways it’s been a bit of a roller-coaster season, when you think about the players we’ve lost.

“Those players would get into most Ryman League sides.

“But we’ve regrouped, brought players in and the boys are absolutely flying.

“It’s great to see and I’m so proud of what the boys are achieving this season.

“We had a lot of success last season and people just expected us to be up there again, but it doesn’t work like that.

“There are a lot of big clubs in our league and we’re having to work very hard to achieve what we’re achieving.”

Stanway, who have applied for promotion, continued their relentless charge with a 4-0 victory at home to lowly Whitton United on Saturday.

“It was another great result,” added Harrop.

“We were three goals up in ten minutes so the game was pretty much wrapped up straight away.

“Maybe we took our foot off the gas a bit after that but it was still another excellent result.”
