WALTON Indoor Bowls Club continued their winning ways with a comfortable 98-42 victory over East Bergholt, at the Columbine Centre.

They found the going tough on two of the rinks, squeezing home by just one shot on one of them.

And they suffered a setback on a second, where an amazing collapse turned what looked like certain success into defeat.

Holding a commanding 18-5 lead with only six ends left, the Walton trio fell apart and went down 24-18.

However, massive wins by Alan Bridges, Alan Rawling and Roy Norton, who won 27-3, and Eric Boddy, Sylvie Steggles and Gerry Hadley, victors by 36-9, saw Walton home.

Results (Walton first): J Steggles, L Boddy, F Gibson 18-24; A Bridges, A Rawling, R Norton 27-3; E Boddy, S Steggles, G Hadley 36-9; S Brown, B Burrows, B Brindley 17-16.

The Holland-on-Sea outdoor club made the short trip across the marshes and finished well beaten.

Because of their limited experience of the indoor game, it was no less than anyone expected.

Holland knew they would lose but still played a full part in an enjoyable afternoon.

They are always welcome visitors to the Columbine, playing with a smile on their faces.
