Mike Carroll ran out the overall winner in Colchester Golf Club’s Christmas Swindlers’ Stableford.
Carroll’s 40 points was just enough to give him overall victory in this competitive 40-strong field made up of the regular participants in the weekly roll-ups.
The golf, superbly organised again by Tim Rogers, was followed by a celebratory lunch when the prizes were given out.
With a strict rule of one prize, one golfer the handicap category 0 to 11 saw Mick Potter took top spot with 39 points.
He was closely followed in by Jim Wilkinson and Lorrie Austin, both returning 37 points.
In this category Barrie Minns took the prize for the most number of points on the par threes.
Andy Totham, also returning 39 points, took the plaudits in the 12-18 handicap category.
Next best in were Norman Ryan and Joe Clarke, both handing in cards with 36 points, and John Bloomfield had the best score on the par threes in this group.
It was certainly Totham’s day as in the Pro’s Christmas Raffle, drawn immediately after the prizegiving, his name was the one drawn out first to win the top prize of a set of fitted Srixon irons.
This included a fitting session in the club’s swing studio to ensure he has no future excuses for not reducing his handicap.
