Danny Cowley is expecting no FA Cup hangover when his Braintree Town team host Kidderminster Harriers in the Vanarama National League on Saturday.

The Iron return to league action sitting fifth in the table but come to it on the back of a 3-1 FA Cup first round replay defeat at Oxford United.

The League Two side ultimately had too much for Braintree in the replay and Cowley admitted it was a disappointment to bow out, but he said there would be no problems in refocusing his players.

He said: “You need everything going for you when you are the under dogs and it probably didn’t in this one. Oxford are a fantastic football team.

"I can’t expect there are many better sides than them in League Two and I expect to see them in League One in May.

“They ask so many questions of you and we’ve taken them to 180 minutes and not come up far short.

“They know they’ve been in a football match both times and I think we have to draw confidence from that. But whenever you go out of the FA Cup you have to manage the aftermath.

"Realistically as a non-league team, you aren’t going to win it.

“So it will come to an end at some point, so it’s important that when it does end, you just manage it correctly because we now go back to our bread and butter.

"We have two very important league games coming up with Kidderminster and Torquay at home.

"They are both big clubs who are fighting for their lives so we’ll dust ourselves down, refocus on Thursday night and go again on Saturday.

“We’ll be alright.

“I have no concerns that we’ll be re-energised and ready to give Kidderminster a really good game.”

However, Cowley may have some fresh injury concerns after both Chez Isaac and Michael Cheek came off with injuries at Oxford.

He added: “Chez has a bit of a back issue which is causing him problems in the hip and groin area so we will look to deal with that.

“I imagine he’ll be touch and go for Saturday and Cheeky could be the same with a bit of a hamstring (injury).”
