STANWAY ROVERS ended their disappointing week on a high note thanks to a 4-1 victory at home to Long Melford.
Angelo Harrop’s side lost 3-1 at Haverhill Rovers last Saturday before bowing out of the League Challenge Cup on Tuesday night, defeated on penalties by Brantham Athletic.
However, they put those setbacks behind them with a comfortable and impressive victory at The Hawthorns on Friday night.
It moved them up to fifth in the Thurlow Nunn League premier division table, ahead of Saturday’s matches.
Stanway made a dream start with an eighth-minute opener from Pip Boyland.
The Rovers skipper connected with a long throw into the box to head his side in front.
Boyland made it two soon after, heading in from a free-kick.
Melford pulled one back with a set-piece of their own but Jamie Shaw rode a couple of tackles before firing home to make it 3-1.
That was the half-time score and Stanway settled it once and for all with another goal after the break, scored by Ben Newson.
After connecting with a ball forward, the front man coolly swept the ball past the Melford keeper.
