COLCHESTER Rovers riders enjoyed some excellent results in the Mud, Sweat and Gears mountain biking competition series finale at Hadleigh Park Olympic Course.

In the under-12 boys’ category, Max Rethman was fourth, Jack Emerson ninth, Jack Letch 11th and Aeddan Seaward 15th.

In the under-12 girls, Chloe Ollett was third while in the juvenile male category, Rob Mercer finished seventh.

Stuart Wetherley won the Open Male category to seal the overall series win.

James Rethman was 23rd, John Letch 26th, Chris English 28th, Chris Seaward 32nd, Paul Fisher 46th and Kevin Ollett 50th.

Rovers also had Daisy Emerson on the under-nines podium, in third place for the series.

Colchester-based Rob Smith, riding for Kreek Racing Team, was third, claiming a deserved third overall for the series.

The MSG series underpins the club’s MTB Championships and the results mean that Rob Mercer, Max Rethman and Chloe Ollett have tied up the club wins in their categories.

Jack Emerson is up to second in under-12 boys with Aeddan Seaward third.

John Letch has a clear lead in Rovers’ Open Male category, with only a point separating Chris English, Chris Seaward and James Rethman with two rounds of the G8 Winter Series remaining.

A Rovers trio took part in the East Anglian CC ten time trial on the B/44 Bungay by-pass course, with Len Benton (77) the fastest veteran on standard in 25 minutes 35 seconds.

Keith Clarke (70) recorded 25m 29s and Tony Howard chalked up 29m 30s.

The fastest rider on scratch was Team Velovelocity’s Daniel Bloy in an impressive 20m 33s.
