ADRIAN Manley has been crowned Colchester Rovers’ club champion for the fourth season in a row.

He claimed the F Medcalf trophy with a total of 250 points, a remarkable achievement in a season where work commitments restricted his racing.

Jim Reed was an impressive runner-up on 245 points while newcomer Chris Hamblion was five points behind in third, in his first season of time trialling.

Tony Shepherd led the Club Handicap Championship all season but missed the Club 30, allowing Giles Askham to pip him at the post.

Askham is now the proud holder of Rovers’ oldest trophy, the L Worthington-Evans Cup.

He finished six points ahead of Shepherd on 244 points, with Hamblion third on 232 points.

Debra Peck won the Ladies’ Championship and E G Mann Cup on 245 points, three points ahead of Rachel Jarvis and Anna Muir (200 points).

Jarvis was the clear winner of the Handicap Championship and the Harry Hayes Memorial Cup, finishing unbeaten across the six-handicap events.

A group of competitors took part in the Hoggenberg Cross cyclocross event, at Redbridge Cycle Centre.

James Morrison won the under-eight event, ahead of third-placed William Smith.

The under-ten girls’ race was won by Daisy Emerson, with her brother Jack finishing 12th in the under-12s.

In the senior race, Martin Smith was 27th, while VC Revolution’s Ian Fraser was 41st in the veteran 40-49, eight places ahead of Rovers’ Ian Mansel-Thomas.

Rovers were also in action at the Amis Velo Supacross at Colchester’s Hilly Fields, the first counting race in Rovers’ cyclocross championship.

James Morrison repeated his Hoggenberg success to win the under-eight boys’ category, ahead of runner-up William Smith and William Morrison was third under-ten boy.

Rovers dominated the girls’ races, with Isla Swainston winning the under-tens and Daisy Emerson runner-up.

In the under-12s, Zoe Swainston was first ahead of second-placed Jodie Taylor and Evie Stepney, who was third.

First Rover home in the under-12 boys’ race was Jack Emerson, finishing fifth.

In the Youth race, in-form Cameron Hurst was second in the under-16s, while first year unde-14 Dan Hall was 19th overall and sixth under-14.

Nick Webber produced a classy ride in the veteran races, finishing third in the 50+ category.

In the 80-rider 40-49 category, Andy Hurst was 13th ahead of Rovers rival Greg Andrews (19th) and Alex Stepney (23rd).

The Senior and Junior race featured Rovers’ James Jackson (16th), James Baldwin (25th) and Martin Smith (33rd).
