Colchester United will monitor the fitness of Darren Ambrose this week after he limped out of their game at Fleetwood Town with a toe injury.

Ambrose had his foot accidently stamped on by an opponent during the first half of the U's disappointing 4-0 defeat at Highbury Stadium, last weekend.

The former Ipswich Town attacker was forced off just after half-time as a result and Colchester will now assess his fitness, ahead of their clash with Scunthorpe United this weekend.

U's boss Tony Humes said: “Darren got trampled on and has badly-bruised toes.

“We sent him out to see how he was in the first few minutes of the second half but as soon as he got out there, he knew he wasn’t going to be able to continue.

“He’s another one of our experienced players who has unfortunately picked up an injury.”
