FC CLACTON boss David Coyle believes there is plenty more to come from Aaron Condon – despite the striker’s hat-trick heroics in the FA Cup.

Condon scored all three of the Seasiders’ goals in their 3-1 extra preliminary round triumph over Eton Manor, last weekend.

The prolific 25-year-old – who is second behind Matt Waters in FC Clacton’s list of all-time leading goalscorers with 75 goals – has now hit the net four times this season.

And boss Coyle feels Condon should be setting himself a minimum target of 20 goals for the campaign.

Coyle said: “Aaron got a hat-trick against Eton Manor but bizarrely, I didn’t think that it was one of his best performances.

“He was excellent in the match before that against Brantham and didn’t score a goal.

“But he has a habit of putting chances away and that’s the nature of the player.

“The simple fact is that Aaron is almost guaranteed 20 goals a year.

“He’s 25 and he still has a lot of things to work on but he has a natural ability of striking the ball.

“He’s greedy and very selfish and they’re good attributes for a forward player.

“He thinks straight away “how can I score a goal?” – he has that sort of mentality. I’ve had him as a player since he was 11 or 12 and I don’t want to take that away from him.

“But we’re always looking to develop our players and Aaron is one of them.”

FC Clacton bowed out of the Essex Senior Cup at the first hurdle after losing out in a penalty shoot-out against Saffron Walden, on Tuesday night.

The Seasiders lost 4-2 on spot-kicks, after the first-round tie had finished 0-0 after 90 minutes.

Coyle handed a full senior debut to Charlie Gibbs and Andy Haines also made his first start for the club, while keeper Luke Avenell also featured.

“We were OK – whenever we go out of a cup it’s disappointing and we wanted to progress but it’s another 90-minute game that we haven’t lost,” said Coyle.

“We made five changes which didn’t help us, because the balance of the side changed slightly.

“But the performance was acceptable against a reasonably good side and we stood toe to toe with them.”

Clacton return to Thurlow Nunn League premier division action on Saturday when they host Walsham-le-Willows at the Rush Green Bowl.

Jack Clampin is out with a shin injury after being stretchered off at Saffron Walden, while Parris Newland is unavailable.

Clacton are also in league action next Tuesday when they host Long Melford (kick-off 7.45pm).
