HARWICH Angling Club senior citizen member Frank Turner, who joined this season, had a successful day’s pleasure fishing session on Dock River.

On an overcast and warm day with the river showing a little colour, Turner chose to target the river carp from peg C30 after seeing some carp activity around the far bank overhanging willow tree.

Setting his rod up with 5lbs main line and a size 14 hook straight through, he used small cubes of luncheon meat for hook bait, laying it around six inches on the bottom.

Although there were plenty of signs of the carp cruising up and down the river, it wasn’t until 1pm that the float slid away and he had a fish on.

After a good ten minutes of playing the carp, Turner brought it to the net and landed an excellent-conditioned streamline common carp weighing in at exactly 11lbs.

Although it was Turner’s only fish caught, before leaving mid-afternoon, it was however a personal best as it was his first double-figure carp caught on Dock River.

With both the club’s waters needing some essential annual maintenance, members have been busy at working parties doing some tidying up and bringing the swims and the banks into good order.

The club is very appreciative of all their efforts and members are being rewarded by having some really good catches from both venues.

There are still some limited memberships available.
