Colchester United are today expected to clinch the signing of a new forward on a season-long loan.

And U’s boss Tony Humes expects the deal to wrap up his summer transfer business – for the time being at least.

Humes is reluctant to reveal the identity of the player he is bringing in, before the signing is completed.

But providing the deal is tied up as expected, it is likely the left-sided attacker will feature in Colchester’s League One opener against Blackpool, this Saturday.

Humes said: “We’re expecting someone to come in on a season-long loan.

“It’s a case of waiting until it finally comes off but the deal is agreed principally and verbally.

“We’ve just got to wait for him to get the final OK from the club in question.”

Humes is unlikely to make any further signings before the big kick-off.

But the Colchester boss has not ruled out more new arrivals before the transfer window closes, on September 1.

The U’s have so far brought in five first-team players this summer – Richard Brindley, Matthew Briggs, George Elokobi, Joe Edwards and Elliot Parish.

“I think if we can get another forward in to bolster things, that will top it off,” said Humes.

“It would complete our transfer business for the time being but you can never say never.

“You have to be sure that everybody is fit and ready to go for the season.

“We still have another month or so until the transfer window shuts and then the loan window opens again.”

The TV cameras will be at the Weston Homes Community Stadium at lunchtime, as part of 92Live.

The U's will take part in the venture, which will see Sky Sports News visit all 92 Premier League and Football League clubs in one day ahead of the big kick-off, this Saturday.
