THE early starters had the best of the conditions in Playgolf Colchester’s captain’s charity day.

Late starter Dan Syrett (13) got the worst of the difficult blustery weather, but showed great form to muscle-in, taking the top spot with a winning score of 45 points.

Adrian Bins (17) carded 43 to take second place, with Mick Farr (9) taking third place with 42, after being the early clubhouse leader.

The Michael Johnson Seniors’ Trophy was played to a stableford format.

This part of the competition is open to the over 65s and the highest placed plus-65-year-old was Jim Greenfield, who was in fourth place overall and took the trophy home.

James Sealey took first place by a point after he carded 42 points to record the best score of the day after a tight tussle with Jeremy Dalton on 41.

Terry Skornia took third on 40 points.

The Ladies’ July stableford competition was played in blustery weather conditions but still attracted a fair number to the course.

Ann Longman carded 35 points to take victory over nearest rivals Carol Farrance, Judith Peeling and Linda Smith.

All three players needed separating by countback after they recorded 31 points with Farrance taking second place from Peeling, leaving Smith in fourth.

Catherine Le Tue recorded 33 to win division two followed by Joka Fayers on 30 and Janet Blackmore in third with 28.

Playgolf's pairing of Nicky Withycombe and Ann Longman sealed a 3&2 victory over Felixstowe Ferry’s Fiona Todd and Sue Bowler in the Women’s Daily Mail Foursomes.

This home victory took Withycombe and Longman through to the seventh round of the competition to play either Wimbledon Common or Epping.
