Is this the biggest week in Colchester United’s recent history?

It is certainly hard to recall a more significant few days for the U’s, in the last few years.

They have given themselves a League One lifeline after winning at Fleetwood Town and are now two points adrift of safety with two home games to go.

Tony Humes’ side face a vital game in hand against Swindon Town tonight, followed by a crucial clash with a Preston North End side chasing automatic promotion, on the final day of the season.

A point might just be enough against Swindon, who know they will finish fourth and rested players against Preston last Saturday, ahead of the forthcoming play-offs.

But depending on other results, the U’s might well still have to beat Preston in a televised Sunday lunchtime showdown at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

It is going to be a difficult task.

In Swindon and Preston, the U’s face two of League One’s top-four sides and clubs dreaming of promotion to the Championship.

Whatever happens, there will be more twists and turns in the coming days, in what promises to be a nerve-racking finish at the bottom of the table.

It now looks like any three from six sides will join Yeovil Town in League Two by the time the last ball of the season is kicked on Sunday afternoon.

Colchester supporters can play their part in helping their team over the line.

Some U’s fans have made their feelings about Humes well known, over recent games.

But now is the time for every Colchester supporter to get behind their club.

Any negativity will only serve to help the opposition and at such an important time, the players need every bit of support they can get to drive them on.

It is important now more than ever for Colchester and their supporters to live up to their name and be United.
