Third place needed countback to decide between Jack Blackman (12) and Lee Kidger (nine) after both carded nett level par rounds. Blackman’s better back nine saw him take the decision with a brace of birdies helping tip the balance.

Stephen Alan (17) won in division two with a nett 68, earning a shot handicap cut for next time out.

Aaron Thrower (20) took the runner up spot with a nett 69. Steve Turner (13) took third place with a level par, nett 70 score.

The Playgolf Colchester Leslie Wood squad got their 2015 campaign under way with a home 8½-6½ victory against Harwich and Dovercourt.

The team got off to a near perfect start when they were 4½-½ up after the morning foursomes.

However, momentum swung during the afternoon matches.

The early matches saw Playgolf extend their lead early on with Martin Kilbey (5&2) and Jake Millard (3&2) taking a point each.

The next two matches went to Harwich. However, Alan Cursons steadied the ship when he earned a hard-fought half.

The result was sealed with Geoff Backhouse all square going down the 18th in his crucial match.

With Playgolf requiring a point for victory, and both players greenside for two, Backhouse managed to get up-and-down to heap the pressure on, leaving his opponent a slippery downhill putt for the half, which he failed to hole, handing Playgolf the victory.
