Cole Kpekawa has returned to parent club Queens Park Rangers, following his loan spell with Colchester United.
Kpekawa, 18, joined the U's in November and the left-back played six games for them during his loan.
But the arrival of Alex Wynter and Matthew Briggs meant his chances of playing would have been limited, at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.
U's boss Tony Humes said: “Cole started particularly well, in the first few games that he played for us.
“But looking at what we need and the situation that we’re in, we need a little bit more experience.
“It’s difficult to put that on young players and it was probably right for both parties and for Cole for him to go back to QPR at this moment in time.”
