SAM Walker played a big part in helping Colchester United record a priceless win at Yeovil Town – and immediately set his sights on securing more points.

The U’s shot-stopper was in excellent form at Huish Park, producing a number of fine saves to help them preserve a clean sheet and record a vital 1-0 victory.

Colchester remain in the League One relegation zone, despite halting a run of five successive league defeats.

But with crucial games against fellow strugglers Gillingham and Crawley Town coming up over the Christmas period, Walker says it is imperative that Colchester build on their win over the Glovers - and eradicate the inconsistency that has plagued them over recent seasons.

Walker said: “It was important that we stopped the rot in the league and this was the perfect game for us – we got a clean sheet, we’ve won the game and we’ve performed superbly as a team.

“I think the problem in the past, not only this season but also in seasons gone by, is our consistency.

“But we’ve shown what we can do as a side and now we must make sure that we don’t let what we’ve done slip on Boxing Day and go on a good run."
